Dr. Gregory Skinner is a leading expert in the assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in adults, with over 15 years of dedicated clinical experience. As the founder of Autism Exists Diagnosis Clinic, Dr. Skinner brings a unique depth of knowledge and compassion to every evaluation, combining evidence-based tools with a patient-centered approach.
His work has helped hundreds of individuals gain clarity and access support through accurate, respectful, and timely diagnoses. Dr. Skinner remains at the forefront of autism research and education in Canada, committed to training other physicians and expanding access to high-quality diagnostic care.
A Critical Gap in Adult Autism Care
Despite growing awareness, Calgary and Southern Alberta still lack any publicly funded clinics dedicated to adult autism diagnosis. The only government-supported clinic is in Edmonton—with a 5 to 7 year waitlist. Autism Exists Diagnosis Clinic is currently Calgary’s only provider of adult autism assessments covered by Alberta Health. Due to overwhelming demand, our waitlist has now reached 2 years and is temporarily closed.

Two goals · One mission
Build a nonprofit. Train more physicians. Expand access.
Too many adults reach adulthood without their autism being recognized. Creating lasting change requires both a sustainable organization and more physicians with the skills to provide high-quality adult ASD assessments.
Our mission has two equal goals: establish an independent nonprofit organization that can raise funds, build partnerships, and sustain this work; and transform Autism Exists Diagnosis Clinic’s existing in-house physician-training model into a structured Continuing Medical Education pathway designed to meet national accreditation requirements.
A pathway from recognition to assessment
The proposed program would support physicians through three stages:
Recognize adult autism
Build a contemporary understanding of adult autism, address common misconceptions, and recognize when assessment may be appropriate.
Learn through clinical cases
Develop understanding through assessment observation, clinical discussion, and practical application.
Build assessment skills
Progress through guided clinical experience and competency evaluation. Physicians who demonstrate the required competencies and complete the program’s sign-off process will be prepared to conduct adult ASD assessments independently, with ongoing mentorship as needed.
Foundational learning will improve recognition and referral. Independent assessment will require completion of supervised clinical training, demonstrated competency, and the program’s formal sign-off process.
This is not a one-time project. The independent nonprofit will provide the long-term structure needed to support program development, accreditation, delivery, evaluation, and expansion—building physician capacity and improving access to adult ASD assessment across Alberta and, over time, throughout Canada.
